Golden State Warriors have won Game 2 of NBA Finals

Golden State won Game 2 107 – 88 and put on a solid performance in front of their home crowd.

Stephen Curry

Steph Curry led the game in points hitting 5 3s and played very good defence against the Boston guards. He is now the front runner of the Finals MVP, one of very few awards that he has yet to win. Warriors fans were able to see a familiar sight with Steph sitting on the bench much of the 4th quarter as the game was essentially a blow out. Golden State’s famous 3rd quarter meant it was too difficult for the Celtics to find momentum in the 4th.

Gary Payton II

Gary Payton played some excellent defence against Boston’s guards. He returned for the first time after being injured during the Warriors vs Grizzlies series. Gary Payton II made it hard for the Celtics to control Jordan Poole, which helped Poole get into a rhythm in the second half.

Draymond Green

The difference for Draymond in this game is that he only had 3 field goals attempted, vastly different to the 12 he had in Game 1. It definitely seems like he learnt his lesson and let the team’s offensive stars shine as he stuck to defence and playmaking. Part of their success tonight was the Steph and Draymond pick and roll that gave the Celtics a headache.

Klay Thompson

Klay had a difficult Game 2 offensively shooting 4-19 fieldgoals and 1-8 from 3. Klay has not been consistant since coming back from injury, however it did not matter in Game 2. We’ll see if he can bounce back in Game 3.

The Celtics

Although cold to start, Jayson Tatum warmed up and ended up with 28 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Al Horford, who had an incredible Game 1 had a very bad game. He had 2 points shooting 1-4 in 27 minues. Al Horford, Marcus Smart & White had 60+ points in game 1, in Game 2 had 16 in total.

The Celtics may feel that the game was unfairly officiated – specifically at Draymond who was consistantly chirping at the refs. There was a very suspicious foul called on Jaylen Brown contesting a Gary Payton II layup:

Brooklyn Nets are officially the only team to be swept in the NBA Playoffs this year.

Warriors take on Celtics in Game 3 at Boston on 8th June and Game 4 will be on the 10th of June in Boston.
